ABSTRACT:
There have been many catastrophic events in world history, and Mongolia has not been spared. On December 4, 1957, at 11:30 a.m., a 12-magnitude earthquake struck the Great Bogdo in the Altai Mountains.
Then, researchers named the 5 most likely catastrophic events to occur in the next 50-100 years. 2 of these are earthquakes. These include:

  1. A powerful earthquake that would level the city of Istanbul to the ground. Istanbul, once the capital of the Byzantine Empire, is located at the epicenter of a powerful earthquake. Researchers have emphasized that Istanbul, located just over 20 kilometers from the North Anatolian Fault, is likely to be hit by a powerful earthquake and subsequent tsunami in the near future. The last earthquake caused by the fault occurred in 1999, killing about 17,000 people.
  2. The San Andreas Fault is a major earthquake zone. Researchers predict that the next major earthquake in the region will occur within the next 30 years, and it is likely to be a magnitude 8 or greater. In addition, earthquakes along this fault, which is located along the west coast of California, are frequent and can even awaken volcanoes.
