ABSTRACT:
The relationship between Russia and North Korea has been shaped by historical, geopolitical, and economic factors, undergoing significant evolution in recent years. This article examines the current dynamics of their bilateral ties, highlighting shared strategic interests, mutual opposition to Western dominance, and Russia’s role as a counterbalance to North Korea’s dependence on China. Key areas of cooperation include military technology, trade, and political solidarity against sanctions. However, the relationship faces challenges due to Russia’s broader international commitments and North Korea’s isolationist policies. The article also explores potential future trajectories, emphasizing the impact of regional security concerns, sanctions regimes, and shifts in global power dynamics. Greater cooperation could emerge, driven by mutual needs in a changing geopolitical environment, yet limitations persist due to economic constraints and international scrutiny.
